High Volume by PEScience Full Review and Ingredients Breakdown

PEScience is a well respected supplement company that places almost all of its time and effort on increasing the quality of their product. This is instead of mass marketing, which could explain why they might not be as well known as they deserve to be.

One of their main sellers is the pump inducing “High Volume” supplement. It is this product that we will be reviewing today.

High Volume is a caffeine free, supplement that is filled with L-Citrulline, Taurine, Arginine Nitrate, Agmatine Sulfate, and Ferula Asafoetida. It also contains 250mg of Vitamin C which is a nice extra.

We will take a look at each ingredient in turn, and then review the supplement as a whole.

High Volume Ingredients Review

High Volume’s ingredients list is split into two parts. There is the regular ingredients: Vitamin C, L-Citrulline, Arginine Nitrate, and Agmatine Sulfate that all contain the dosages per serving.

Then there is the Performance Pump Matrix which contains Taurine and Ferula Asafoetida, this is a proprietary blend and as such does not contain individual ingredient dosages. Which is a real shame, as this makes it difficult to review the supplement properly.

• Vitamin C (250mg)

Usually taken as a supplement to avoid colds (or improve how you feel while suffering from a cold), vitamin C is a surprisingly effective pump producer.

Increase Blood Flow

Studies have shown that vitamin C can increase blood flow. A 2012 study by De Marchi et al found that vitamin c reduced resistance to blood flow in the forearm [1].

The dosage is pretty decent.

• L-Citrulline (4g)

An amino acid that turns into L-Arginine when it reaches the kidneys, L-Citrulline is a fantastic ingredient for any pump product.

The dosage may be a little low for sports performance (examine.com recommends 6-8g) but remember that High Volume also contains Arginine Nitrate.

Great Pump

L-Citrulline massively increases nitric Oxide which leads to a great pump [2].

It can also reduce fatigue, reduce muscle soreness, and increase training volume. Making it perfect for a pre workout.

• Arginine Nitrate (2g)

A precursor to nitric oxide, Arginine is an important ingredient in any pump supplement. Arginine nitrate is a compound made up of Arginine and a nitrate group [3].

It is very effective at increasing the amount of time that vasodilation occurs for, making it great for increasing blood flow.

The dosage is a little low, but remember this supplement also contains L-Citrulline.

• Agmatine Sulfate (1g)

Agmatine is made from L-Arginine, and is mainly used to reduce pain.

This can be useful in a pre workout as it can allow you to train harder.

Caffeine works in a similar way, blocking the pain signals and allowing you to train harder and for longer.

It also increases blood flow, but only lasts for a very short time.

• Taurine (unknown)

One of the best ingredients for increasing blood flow, in the correct dosage Taurine has been shown to significantly increase blood flow [4].

Sadly, because we don’t know what dosage is present in High Volume, we have no way of knowing whether there is enough Taurine per serving to increase blood flow.

• Ferula Asafoetida (unknown)

This ingredient is added because it has been known to thin the blood and lower blood pressure. This may sound counterintuitive, but it is actually quite clever.

With all of the ingredients in High Volume aiming to increase vasodilation and blood flow, it could lead to very high blood pressure.

But by adding an ingredient that thins the blood [5], you can get all the benefits of high blood flow without the negative effects of high blood pressure.

The Bottom Line

High Volume by PEScience is a decent supplement, it contains a lot of good ingredients and will definitely help you to increase blood flow, and therefore increase your workout pump.

On the other hand, the use of a proprietary blend is frustrating, preventing what could be a very decent product from being fully trustworthy. Good but not great.
