There are many fat-burning products in the supplement world right now, but the majority are effective due to stimulants such as Caffeine. But what if you don’t want a stimulant-filled fat-burner?

There are several benefits of L-Carnitine (also known as ALCAR). It is produced naturally in the body, but can also be ingested through diet or supplementation.
Foods that contain it include dairy products, nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables.
L-Carnitine is a chemical compound that protects mitochondria from being damaged by the aging process.
If you are suffering from chronic fatigue then L-Carnitine supplementation can be very effective.
ALCAR increases energy and therefore activity, which can help to burn fat indirectly. There is also a potential for ALCAR to burn fat directly though this has less scientific evidence for it.
A 2007 study found that elderly people suffering from fatigue who took 2g of L-Carnitine gained muscle and lost fat mass, they also reduced fatigue and improved cognitive function .
Green Tea Extract
Green Tea Extract is a fantastic stimulant-free fat burner for two reasons, the first is that it can increase your metabolism which leads to increased calories burned.
The second reason is that it increases fat oxidation, which is the utilization of stored fat for energy.
Studies have shown that taking Green Tea Extract can lead to fat loss, for example a 2010 study found that Green Tea led to 1.9kg of weight loss .
However that study used Green Tea which contained 125mg of caffeine per serving, so even though it is much lower than most caffeinated fat-burners it is not stimulant-free.
Decaffeinated Green Tea
Luckily a study that used de-caffeinated green tea extract (which can still contain up to 5mg of caffeine but is basically stimulant-free) found that it was still effective at increasing fat oxidation .
So basically, if you are looking for a stimulant-free fat burner then you should make sure that the Green tea extract that is used is decaffeinated. But if you aren’t worried about the caffeine content then regular green tea extract is probably more effective at burning fat.
This last stimulant-free ingredient is quite controversial, for a short period Forskolin was the most over-hyped supplement in the world.
Described as a “miracle fat burner that can help you lose 10lbs in a week” Forskolin exploded in popularity. But as fast as it had been built up, it was knocked back down even faster.
Many fitness professionals argued that it was overrated and ineffective, and today it is almost unheard of by most people.
But the truth is that Forskolin is effective at preventing fat-gain, and may also help burn fat, it’s just not a miracle fat-loss cure, and it should never have been described as one.
A study by Godard, Johnson, & Richmond (2005) found that 12 weeks of Forskolin consumption led to improved body composition, increased testosterone, and increased bone mass in obese men .
Another study by Henderson et al (2005) did NOT find any fat loss in the same period, but did find that Forskolin prevented additional fat gain .
This might not sound like a big deal, but preventing weight gain is a very useful benefit for a supplement. At the end of the day one study found significant fat loss, while another concluded that Forskolin prevented weight gain. Showing that Forskolin could very well be worth a try.
